PURPOSE: To provide a document reading device, which presents adjustability for the pressure contacting force between a drive roller to transport document sheets and a holder roller.

CONSTITUTION: A leaf spring 19 is deflected by the pressing part 21 of a pressing body 22, and the shaft 17 of a holder roller 16 is pressed by the pressure of the leaf spring 19, and thereby the holder roller 16 is contacted by pressure with a drive roller 7, wherein the amount of deflection of the leaf spring 19 is adjusted by shifting the pressing body 22 in the direction perpendicular to a document transport path 3 through displacing of an adjusting member 27 held by a support 24. Accordingly each document sheet can be transported always at a constant speed with adjustment of the pressure contacting force of holder roller 16 to the drive roller 7 even with varying factors such as dispersion of component parts in the manufacturing processes, secular change, and change in the document sheet quality. This allows avoiding the condition in which the read image expands and shrinks in the aux. scanning direction.
