PURPOSE: To allow a cursor to adapt automatically to the next line by restraining the motion of a document supporting table when a start switch is stamped, and by disengaging the restraint when a driving means is actuated and a motion corresponding to one line of document takes place.

CONSTITUTION: When a start switch 53 is stamped, a solenoid 38 is energized, and the motion of a locating board 34 is restrained by a stationary rod 35 and a restraining rod 37. A motor 31 is rotated in the regular-direction and a slide base 25 moves downward through the action of a cogged belt 27. and a cursor 12 also moves in a single piece. An operational plate 46 is put in pressure contact with a coil spring 33 where the locating board 34 is mounted. When the slide base 25 makes a movement corresponding to one line of document, a moving amount sensing switch 45 is actuated by the operational plate 46 so that the motor 31 and solenoid 38 are stopped. Thereby the text of the document is read into a word-processor or computer quickly and accurately.
