A display device 1 has a storage property and a storage part 3 is a non-volatile type. When power is not supplied from the external to an external power supply input part 13, a power supply control part 11 executes power saving control. During the period of power saving control, no power is supplied to the display device 1, a display control part 2 and the storage part 3 except a change of display. When a page turning operation part 6 is operated, the control part 11 detects the operation and starts power supply to the display device 1, the control part 2 and the storage part 3. The control part 2 reads out display information from the storage part 3 and writes the read information in the display device 1. After changing the display, power supply to these parts is stopped again. Since the display of the display device 1 does not disappear because of its storage property even when power supply to the device 1 is stopped, a user can refer to the displayed contents as they are.
