PURPOSE: To improve the service performance and the operation, efficiency of an elevator by shortening the waiting time during the time registering the time call by operating a vacant cage display means when a passenger detecting means does not detect a passenger, and immediately closing a door before the lapse of a common set time, when a door closure instruction means is operated.

CONSTITUTION: A balance device 18 for detecting a passenger in an elevator cage is installed and a door is opened for a set time by a central processor 12 when the elevator cage is set, and if the balance device 18 does not detect the passenger during the opening of the door, a vacant cage display lamp 17 is put ON, and when a door closure instruction button 7 is operated according to the operation, the door is closed before the lapse of the set time. Accordingly, when the getting-off of the passenger completes, the door can be closed immediately by the door closure instruction button, according to the put-ON of the vacant cage display lamp, and the stop time of the elevator cage at a getting-on field can be shortened.
