PURPOSE: To obtain a dope which gives moldings which are inexpensive, have excellent strength, etc. and are suitable as artificial meat, etc., by partially dissolving cellulose in an aq. soln. of an alkali, adding guest components such as polypeptide, edible polysaccharide, etc. thereto and stirring the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Cellulose is partially dissolved in an aq. soln. of 2W2.5 N alkali to prepare an alkaline soln. wherein not more than 50pts.wt. (per 100pts.wt. dissolved cellulose) undissolved cellulose is swollen and dispersed therein. Polypeptide and/or edible polysaccharide (biostructure) as guest components or a soln. obtd. by dissolving them in an aq. soln. of an alkali are/is added to the above soln. The mixture is stirred to obtain a dope wherein at least 40wt% of the whole guest component is dissolved therein and the weight ratio of cellulose to the whole guest component is 1:99W99:1. Said dope can be molded into a fiber, a film or a powder.
