To obtain a new subject sulfate having an anionic surface activity and excellent in a low temperature solubility and a decomposability in an acidic medium, inducing a water-insoluble long chain ketone as a decomposed substance, readily recoverable from waste water, and useful as a surfactant.
This double-chain type sulfate is a compound of formula I [X is a group (X') expressed by the formula:-OSO3M (M is H, an alkaline metal, ammonium, a 2-3C mono-, di- or tri-alkanolammonium, a 1-5C alkyl-substituted ammonium or a basic amino acid group) or OH, and at least one of them is X'; Ra and Rb are each a group expressed by the formula: R1(OR2)z (R1 is a 1-22C (branched) alkyl or alkenyl and may contain an aromatic nucleus in the structure; R2 is a 2-4C alkylene; (z) are respectively integers having an average of 0-20)], e.g. a disodium disulfate of 2,2-diundecyl-5,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxane. The compound of the formula I is obtained by sulfating the compound of the formula II with a sulfating agent, and further salifying, as necessary.
