To stabilize compression operation and to improve compression efficiency by a method wherein the occurrence of unevenness in a suction pressure between cylinder bores is suppressed and the suction efficiency of refrigerant gas to the cylinder bore is improved.
A double piston is reciprocatively contained in a plurality of cylinder bores formed in cylinder blocks 11 and 12. After suction refrigerant gas is introduced in s crank chamber and distributed to the suction chambers of front and rear housings through the suction passages 16 of the cylinder blocks 11 and 12, the suction refrigerant gas is sucked in each cylinder bore 24. The number of the suction passages 16 is decreased o a value lower than the number of cylinder bores 24. The suction port 38 corresponding to the cylinder bore 24 is arranged in the vicinity of the suction passage 16.
