To obtain a double-side pressure sensitive adhesive material, such as a double-side pressure-sensitive adhesive tape or sheet, of which the length to be stuck can be easily determined at an arbitrary position without cutting by forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer in a specified shape.
This material is obtained by forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 2 on the surface of a release paper 1 or a release film in such a manner as to give tackiness discontinuously in the longitudinal direction. The most suitable particular mode of forming tackiness discontinuously and independently in the longitudinal direction comprises arranging a plurality of unit elements of a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer independently to one another in the longitudinal direction to form an aggregate. Other examples include those forms wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is substantially discontnuous although it is apparently continuous, e.g. allowing a pressure- sensitive adhesive to remain among independent pressure-sensitive adhesive layers to give ruggednesses in cross section, forming cuts in a continuous pressure-sensitive adhesive layer with, e.g. a cutter to give ruggednesses in cross section, and pressing a continuous pressure-sensitive adhesive layer for contact bonding widthwise to give ruggednesses in cross section.
