To prove no hindrance even in the case of stopping a drum upon detecting end breakage in the case of doubling a large number of yarn to wind the yarn by providing a hydraulic cylinder for applying contact pressure of a winding package to the drum from the start of slowing down onward at the time of stopping the drum.
Yarn doubled from a yarn guide roller 35 and tensed by a tenser 36 is wound onto a package Pw rotated on a drum 18, while being put in traverse motion by a guide 21 of a traverse motion device 19. When an end breakage detecting means on the yarn feeding package side detects end breakage, a motor 25 with a brake is stopped to apply the brake so as to stop the rotation of a drum 18. In this case, a high pressure fluid is supplied to a hydraulic cylinder 48, and the package Pw is pressed with high contact pressure to the drum 18 also during winding so as to stop in a short time together with the drum without a slip during slowing down to stop. The yarn end of the broken yarn is therefore prevented from being wound onto the package Pw.
