PURPOSE: To increase paper strength by arranging at least two large diameter drums at near positions in a drier part and providing at least two jamming rolls on periphery of the large diameter drums.

CONSTITUTION: Plural large diameter drums 2 are arranged at near positions in between a drier drums 1 and plural jamming rolls 3 are arranged on periphery of the large diameter drums 2. A paper web 4 made from highly concentrated suspension is dried with pressing and heating through the drier drums 1 and between the large diameter drums 2 and the jamming rolls 3. Tension is applied in traveling direction of the paper web and pressure is simultaneously applied in thickness direction of the paper web, thus bonding between fibers is toughened.
