PURPOSE: To reliably detect break of a drill, by a method wherein a pair of oblong holes are formed in the side wall of the pressure foot of a print substrate drilling machine, the interior is irradiated through the one of the holes, and the drill and the print substrate are observed through receipt of light transmitted through the other hole.
CONSTITUTION: Oblong holes 28 and 29, positioned facing each other, are formed in the side wall of the pressure foot 14. A reflecting mirror 32 and a projecting means 33 are supported to the upper surface of a guide 25 through brackets 30 and 31. Light projected from the projecting means 33 is reflected by the reflecting mirror 32, and the drilling position of a print substrate 3 is irradiated with the light emitted through the oblong hole 28. A television camera 35 is supported to a frame 34 in a manner that it is positioned opposite to the oblong hole 29, and the drilling position on the print substrate 3 and an image therearound are projected on a television receiver 37. Thus, watching of a picture on the television receiver 37 enables detection of break of a drill 9.
