Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricant capable of prolonging the life of a plug for piercing rolling a seamless steel pipe and to provide a method for piercing rolling a seamless steel pipe using this lubricant. SOLUTION: The lubricant is composed of 1-10% of a granular layered substance, 1-10% of a water-dispersible or water-soluble polymer, 0-15% of an inorganic binder and the rest of water. In the rolling method, employed is a plug having a scale thickness H of at least the tip portion thereof of at least 1 μm and having formed on the surface thereof a dried and hardened coated film of the lubricant having a thickness V satisfying the equation: V>=50/H.
