PURPOSE: To enable sure speed control even in large vehicle velocity error by adjusting engine output torque corresponding to the velocity error with opening and closing of a throttle valve and restraining the opening and closing within the limit of allowable torque variation in a range producing no acceleration shock.
CONSTITUTION: In a drive-by-wire type vehicle, a motor 7 for drivably opening and closing a throttle valve 6 is controlled by an ECU provided with an output torque variation limiting system speed control section 152 to set the upper and lower limit values of drive torque variation to give no shock during speed control by an allowable torque variation setting means 152A. The upper and lower limit values are inputted to a converting means 152B so that the upper and lower limit values of torque variation are converted to the upper limit value ΔA/Nu and the lower limit value ΔA/Nl of A/N and outputted. A throttle valve opening and closing limiting means 152C outputs a desired throttle opening θo and final desired throttle valve opening θt, so that acceleration shocks are effectively restrained.
