Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To usually hold constant emission luminance characteristics irrelevant to a display load factor.
SOLUTION: A display device in which a plurality of respective drive elements 10,... share driving of a plurality of picture elements and display luminance is changed by changes in the pulse number of sustain pulses for supplying to a PDP 16, is provided with a counter 22 as a display load factor detection means and an LUT 24 as a sustain pulse control means, the counter 22 detects the display load factor (the number of drive picture elements) at every one frame or one field, a display drive control circuit 20 obtains the sustain pulse number for holding the luminance characteristics from the LUT 24 to the PDP 16 by setting a calculation value of the counter 22 as an address, and the drive elements 10,... are driven and controlled by using this sustain pulse number. The constant emission luminance characteristics is so held that, when the display load factor is large, the load is large so that the sustain pulse number is set to large and when the display load factor is small, the load is small so that the sustain pulse number is reduced.
