Abstract:

PURPOSE: To drive a liquid crystal display device without causing a residual effect by providing a polarity inversion circuit converting a video signal into a liquid crystal drive AC signal and making an input output characteristic the polarity inversion circuit nonlinear.

CONSTITUTION: Two amplifier sections 5A, 5B are provided in place of an amplifier and an inverter of a conventional drive circuit. The amplifier section 5A is a noninverting amplifier section having a linear input output characteristic and the amplifier section 5B is an inverting amplifier section having a nonlinear input output characteristic. A DC level of an output signal of a polarity inversion circuit 5 differs from the display content (corresponding to AC amplitude). A signal whose level is the sum of the level of the output signal and an offset level ΔV (depending on the display content) by a TFT 13 is fed to a drain electrode 13d and a picture element electrode 14. Thus, the drain level is substantially constant independently of the display content. Thus, even when a same pattern is displayed for a long time, the pattern is not stored in each picture element of a liquid crystal display cell 1 and no residual effect is caused to the liquid crystal display cell 1.
