To provide an improvement related to a drive tumbler used in a large-sized crawler utilized in a mobile lift crane or the like, and to a method for manufacturing and utilizing the crawler itself.
A combination of a drive tumbler 100 and a track 50 includes a plurality of connected track shoes 52c 52d, and 52e and a plurality of driven surfaces 136. The track is wrapped around the drive tumbler so that the plurality of shoes are in contact with the drive tumbler. The drive tumbler has a plurality of drive surfaces and a circumferential rim surface that includes a plurality of shoe contact surfaces 138 each of which makes contact with the inside surface of one of the track shoes that are in contact with the tumbler. The shoe contact surface has such a shape that a line normal to the tangent of the shoe contact surface does not pass through the axis of the rotation of the drive tumbler, thereby allowing the shoe contact surface on the rim of the drive tumbler to transmit a tractive force to the track.
