Abstract:
The drive unit has a retarder connected ahead of the drive. The retarder can be operated jointly with an engine brake to form a total braking unit (GSE). The total braking unit is so arranged that with a braking sequence the retarder comes into operation before the engine brake. A first component of the total braking effort is provided by the retarder and a second component by the engine brake. The two components together make up half the total braking effort.
