To provide a drive unit of an SR motor that can perform sensorless control without using a position detection sensor that detects the position of a rotor.
A fuzzy inference circuit 30 fuzzy-infers the rotational position of the rotor 14 on the basis of a selection phase signal and a phase current value from an effective excitation selection circuit 24 and a flux interlinkage number from a flux-interlinkage number operation circuit 28. The fuzzy inference stores the fuzzy set information of a membership function of the phase current, the fuzzy set information of a membership function of the flux linkage number, and information on a fuzzy rule that estimates the position of the rotor from the phase current and the flux interlinkage number. The fuzzy inference circuit also obtains a grade from the input phase current value and the stored phase-current fuzzy set information, obtains a grade from the input flux interlinkage number and the stored flux-interlinkage number fuzzy set information, and fuzzy-infers the position of the rotor in an effective excitation phase that is indicated by the selection phase signal from the obtained grades related to the phase current and the flux linkage number, and the fuzzy rule information.
