To reduce power consumption in a liquid crystal display.
A driving circuit for a liquid crystal display module has a structure formed of an array of liquid crystal cells and signal lines. Each liquid crystal cell is charged via one of the signal lines by any amount between two saturated values so as to provide the display intensity corresponding to the liquid crystal cell. The driving circuit is configured to selectively charge all the liquid crystal cells of the structure during a frame period so as to cause the array of the liquid crystal cells to display an image. During a first mode of operation, all the liquid crystal cells are repeatedly recharged at a low refreshed rate. During a second mode of operation, all the liquid crystal cells are repeatedly recharged at a normal refreshed rate, higher than the low refreshed rate. Also, during the first mode of operation, all the liquid crystal cells are charged only to one or other of the two saturated values.
