Without entirely using gear type pinion stands, toothless rollers 1, 2, 3 are used, contact loads are imparted between them, the roller 1 is rotated with a motor 30, the rotation of the roller 1 is transmitted to the rollers 2, 3 by frictional force basesd on the contact load and the rotations of the rollers 2, 3 are transmitted to rolling rolls (intermediate rolls) 40, 41 through spindles 34, 35. At the time of the generation of rolling trouble such as the breakage of the plate, by momentarily releasing the contact loads between the rollers 1, 2, 3 by the action of a selector valve, transfer torques are eliminated and the rollers 2, 3 after releasing the contact loads are braked with brakes.
