PURPOSE: To improve the energy saving and the product quality by providing a clutch between plural sets of rolling stands and driving them by a motor installed in both ends of a bus line.

CONSTITUTION: In the rolling mill in which plural sets of rolling stands 10-15 for rolling successively a material 16 to be rolled are placed in series in the direction of a bus line 17, motors 24, 25 are placed in both ends of the bus line 17, power transmission systems 38, 39 are provided and each rolling stand 10-15 is driven. Between the motors 24, 25 and the rolling stands 10, 11, 14 and 15 of both ends, and between each rolling stand 10-15, clutches 30-37 are provided, respectively. In such a way, the generation of a tension loop of the material 16 to be rolled can be prevented and a product can be obtained with high dimension accuracy.
