In a condition where a driving force source 13 does not generate driving force, a state transition command for the transmission TM from a non-transmitting state into a transmitting state is input. In this case, prior to transition into the transmitting state with the engagement of a friction engaging element C1, the driving force source 13 generates the driving force under the control of the engaging pressure of the friction engaging element C1 to be preliminary engaging pressure to set the friction engaging element C1 into a right-before-engagement state, to rotate a drive input member I. Thus, a transmission input member M is rotated for transmission input rotating motion.
