To sufficiently match a drivability demanded by a driver and a real drivability with each other by changing the transmission gear ratio of an automatic transmission when an opening of an intake air rate control valve is nearly fully opened, and controlling an opening of the control valve to a setting value in synchronism with a start or completed period of change of transmission gear ratio.
At the time of automobile operation, a step-down rate of an acceleration pedal 1, engine speed, and automobile speed are read in, it is judged in a control device 13 whether the automobile speed is (a) and less or not, and it is judged whether the step-down rate is (A) and less or not in the case where the vehicle speed is (a) and less. In the case where the step-down rate is (A) and less, a signal is outputted to command a gear position to 4-speed. A throttle opening is found out an engine torque found out from the step-down rate and engine speed, a throttle valve as an intake air rate control valve is controlled by a throttle controller 6, and a driving torque demanded by a driver is outputted. In the case where the step-down rate is (B) or more, a gear changing command is outputted according to its opening, and a valve opening is controlled to a prescribed value in synchronism with start or completed period of change of a transmission gear ratio.
