Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the active matrix type liquid crystal display device which generates no smear and is free from deterioration in display picture quality due to smear.

CONSTITUTION: The active matrix type liquid crystal display device has a matrix substrate equipped with many parallel-arranged scanning lines 1, many parallel-arranged signal lines 2 crossing the scanning lines 1 at right angles, thin films transistors(TR) 3 and liquid crystal cells 4 arranged at the respective intersections of the scanning lines 1 and signal lines 2, and a scanning-side driving circuit and a signal-side driving circuit coupled with the matrix substrate respectively. When this display device is driven. a display signal (drain voltage) VD applied to each signal line 1 in the selection time (1H) of each scanning line changes from the positive polarity to the negative polarity, and consequently variation in the hold voltage of the liquid crystal cell 4 at the end of the selection period (1H) of each scanning line is suppressed.
