Operations of driving circuits which drive pixels of a display panel for every prescribed frame are stopped while displaying a still image or during a power save mode. The circuits include a vertical direction driver 200 which successively selects pixels and a horizontal direction driver 300 which successively supplies display data to the pixels. For example, a vertical start pulse STV is thinned and the outputting of vertical clocks CKV is stopped during a thinned frame interval. By employing such a simple method, the operations of the driving circuits are stopped so that power consumption is reduced. Especially in the case of displaying a still picture, no adverse effect is given to the display quality by periodically stopping the operation of the drivers, resulting in reduction of power consumption.
