PURPOSE: To prolong the flashing period of segments by turning on and off alternately plural flashing segments of the electrochromic display device.

CONSTITUTION: One segment 3 of a colon is driven to flash at a 2sec period and the other segment 4 is also driven to flash at a 2sec period. Both segments flash alternately having a half-period shift. Consequently, either of both segments flashes at least once a second to make a second display. Namely, this driving system performs the second display on the colon. Each segment flashes at a 2sec period, so the life is prolonged twice. Further, a sufficient response time is secured because of the flashing of a 2sec period.
