PURPOSE: To provide a gradation display with excellent display condition by suppressing the occurrence of a flicker without lowering essential drive frequency, to reduce the circuit scale and to reduce the cost.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel 8 is driven by a display signal voltage from a column driver 7 and a scan signal voltage from a row driver 6. Then, in a one line period of the scanning side, the difference voltage between the scan signal voltage and the display signal voltage and the difference voltage, of which polarity is inversed, are distributed at equal time and applied to a liquid crystal element. That is, the difference voltages, of which polarities are different from each other, are applied to a pixel (liquid crystal) in one line period. A one line memory 9 with capacity of (1/the number of scanning lines) of a conventional frame memory instead of the conventional frame memory storing the display signal voltage data after orthogonal transformation is used for the drive circuit.
