Abstract:

To reduce the number of times of forced initialization operations of a plasma display panel to suppress black luminance and to perform a stable writing operation.

In a driving method for a plasma display panel, a field includes: a first kind of subfield in which a scanning electrode exists to apply falling inclined waveform voltage after applying rising inclined waveform voltage rising up to prescribed voltage generating discharge, regardless of the history of discharge; and a second kind of subfield applying falling inclined waveform voltage to the scanning electrode. In an initialization period of the second kind of subfield following the first kind of subfield, falling inclined waveform voltage is applied to the scanning electrode and third voltage is applied to a sustain electrode. In an initialization period of the second kind of subfield following the second kind of subfield, falling inclined waveform voltage is applied to the scanning electrode, and fourth voltage lower than the third voltage is applied to the sustain electrode.
