This driving support device is provided with the projecting part arranged in a side part of a vehicle, a driving means for folding up and opening the projecting part, an image pickup device for photographing a prescribed photographing object, the display part, an image forming processing means 91 for forming an image obtained by phorographing on a display image screen of the display part, an obstacle detecting means for detecting an obstacle, an approaching state judging processing means 92 for judging whether or not a vehicle is in an approaching state to he obstacle and a folding-up processing means 93 for folding up the projecting part by driving the driving means when the vehicle is in the approaching state to the obstacle. When performing driving operation of approaching the edge while steadily gazing at the display part, the projecting part is not contacted with the obstacle. The driving operation can be performed without caring about the projecting part.
