Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support system capable of improving fuel economy by reducing unnecessary acceleration and deceleration during traveling on a road having two or more lanes on each side, and a driving support method.SOLUTION: A driving support system includes a driver's own vehicle speed sensor 51, a radar sensor 52 for a leading vehicle, a radar sensor 53 for the following vehicle, an instruction device 54, and a control device 55. When the driver's own vehicle 20 catches up with the leading vehicle 30 by the time the following vehicle 40 overtakes the driver's own vehicle 20, the control device 55 makes the instruction device 54 provide instructions to select an overtaking lane 13 adjacent to a driving lane 12 as a lane on which the driver's own vehicle 20 travels.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
