Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce overall length in the axial direction and weight by placing a rotor of a retarder on an engine shaft or on a crankshaft journal coaxial with the engine shaft.
SOLUTION: A driving unit of an automobile has a retarder 2 having a rotor impeller 2.1 and a stator impeller 2.2 and an air blower 3 arranged on the left side of a crank housing 1.3, A housing of the retarder 2 is constituted of a bell type part 2.3 to surround the rotor impeller 2.1 and a covering member 2.4, and the rotor impeller 2.1 is floated and supported by a shaft journal 1.2. This shaft journal 1.2 has a damper device 2.5, and the damper journal 1.5 is fixed and connected to the shaft journal 1.2 not to rotate. Additionally, the air blower 3 is driven by a crankshaft 1 of an engine through a transmission gear set, and an air blower shaft 32 is extended in parallel against the shaft journal 1.2.
