Title:
DROPPING TYPE CASTING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61255757
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To cast an ingot having uniform and fine crystal structure by dropping the liquid drops of a molten metal into a casting mold preheated to an adequate temp. thereby casting the ingot.

CONSTITUTION: The casting mold 14 is preheated by a heater 15 to 600W1,000°C. The heating is then stopped to form an arc 12 between electrodes 11 and 11. The end faces of the electrodes 11 facing each other are melted by the heat of the arc 12 to form the liquid drops 17 so that the liquid drops fall into the mold. The liquid drops 13 falling into the mold 14 are slowly cooled and solidified via a semi-molten state 17. The crystal grain size of the solidified structure of the casting ingot 16 obtd. in such a manner is small. Since the mold 14 is preheated, the temp. changes less during the progression of casting and the ingot 16 having the solidified structure of the crystal grain size uniform from the bottom to the top is formed.
