PURPOSE: To provide the titled drug obtained by compounding astromicin compound with a β-lactam antibiotic substance, and having improved antibacterial activity of both components and reduced side effects.
CONSTITUTION: The objective drug contains an astromicin compound (e.g. astromicin of formula) or its salt and a β-lactam antibiotic substance (e.g. piperacillin). Astromicin compound has broad antibacterial spectrum against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, however, it has weak antibacterial effect to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has been attempted widely to promote the antibacterial activity of an aminoglucoside antibiotic substance and a β-lactam antibiotic substance, especially the activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and to reduce the side effect of the former compound by the combined use of both components. A remarkable synergistic effect was found in the antibacterial activity especially against pseudomonas aeruginosa by the combination of an astromicin compound with a β-lactam antibiotic substance. The amount of the β-lactam antibiotic substance is usually 0.5W20(W/W) per 1pt. of the astromicin compound.
