Abstract:
Internal shoe drum brake has a hydraulic cylinder (52) and piston in engagement with parts (28, 30) of the respective shoes so that, on actuation, the cylinder floats with one shoe and the piston floats with the other shoe. The cylinder is clear of a back plate (12) which supports the shoes but has an extension projecting through a hole (42) in that plate. The extension contains a connection for the supply of the hydraulic fluid or bleed nipple. To ensure minimal dimension for the hole, the extension is asymmetric with respect to the hole when the brake is released.
