A lid of a drum fed from a throw-in port 1 is cut by a cutter 2, and the cut end is folded outwardly by a bending device 3, and the drum is thrown into a drum burning furnace 5 with the cut end directed downwardly by a reversing device 4. A drum body is heated in the burning furnace 5, the paint and residues are changed into the gas, and the gas is fed to a secondary combustion furnace 12. The paint residues, etc., are removed from the burnt drum body by a shot blaster 6, and after recess is corrected by a correcting device 7, any leakage is checked for by a checking device 8. Then, the drum is dried by a dryer 9, and pained by a painting machine 10, and a lid is provided by a lid mounting device 11.
