PURPOSE: To prevent an elevator car from falling by keeping the elevator car tracking force of each rope uniform by passing one of a pair of ropes round a pair of sheaves and also connecting the tip side of each rope and engaging each rope with the elevator car through a preventive member.

CONSTITUTION: An elevator car 1 on which passengers are taken in moves upward and downward by a hoist 13. One end of each of a pair of ropes 9 and 10 is connected to the hoist 13. To the car 1, a pair of sheaves 5 and 6 are attached and a pair of stopper plates 16 and 17 are arranged. In addition, a connecting rod 19, which is engageable with each of stopper plates 16 and 17 is connected to the other side of each of ropes 9 and 10. The other side of each of ropes 9 and 10 is passed around each of sheaves 5 and 6, and the tip side of each of the ropes 9 and 10, and the connecting rod 19 is engaged with each of stopper plates 16 and 17. Through these operations, ropes 9 and 10 can be engaged with the elevator car 1 through the stopper plates 16 and 17.
