To easily assemble a dry cylinder liner without producing fatigue failure at the polishing clearance groove part of the dry cylinder liner and prevent the liner from being deformed during the assembly.

This dry cylinder liner 1 comprises a large diameter part 2 on the upper part, a small diameter part on the lower part, and a polishing clearance groove 4 in the upper part outer periphery of the small diameter part 3. The axial length A of the large diameter part 2 is larger than the compression height B of a piston 8 inserted into a cylinder block 5, and smaller than 1/2 of the overall length of the cylinder liner 1. When the cylinder liner is fitted to the cylinder, the radial clearance between the liner and the inner peripheral surface of the bore hole 6 in the cylinder block 5 is 0 to 20 μm at the large diameter part 2 and the small diameter part 3.
