A dry distillation device is provided with a dry distillation furnace 1. The dry distillation furnace 1 heats a raw material 2 which is a refuse e.g. a shredder dust and a dry distillation gas 8 and a dry distillation residue 9 are taken out from the furnace separately. A charging pipe 22 has a distal end portion thereof connected to a charging opening 3 of the dry distillation furnace 1. A raw material charging hopper 23 is mounted on the midst portion of the charging pipe 22. In the raw material charging hopper 23, a screw 26 is disposed and such a screw 26 is connected with a motor 25 by way of a torque limiter 27. Upon rotation of the screw 26, the raw material 2 in the raw material charging hopper 23 is forcibly fed into the charging pipe 22 so as to form a material seal portion 20. The raw material 2 in the charging pipe 22 is charged into the furnace as a pusher 29 is moved in a forward direction.
