PURPOSE: To improve the known dryer groups to reduce abrasion of a supporting belt as much as possible in a paper making machine especially having a remarkably large working velocity.

CONSTITUTION: Both surfaces of a paper ribbon 9 to be dried are brought to sequentially contact to drying cylinders. A space (a) always exists between drying screen 10, 20 in a spot where the ribbon 9 moves from a first drying screen to a second drying screen. A first supporting belt 10 runs facing to a first direction-changing suction roll 24a of a second dryer group through a supplementary guide roll 30 installed by separating in a distance D from the last direction-changing suction roll 24. The roll 30 together with the drying screen 10 passes the drying screen by pushing an air boundary layer which is flowing in, thus the ribbon 9 is turned its direction toward the second drying screen 20.
