To provide a drying apparatus having favorable handleability and maintainability with a simple configuration and efficiently drying and reducing a volume of a processing object and carbonizing the processing object.
The drying apparatus 10 includes: a process tank 11 composed of an inner casing 14 for housing a processing object X, an outer casing 24 and the like; a plurality of agitating means 12, 13 disposed inside the process tank 11; a heating means 15 for elevating the temperature of the processing object X in the process tank 11, the heating means disposed on a lower face side at a bottom 14b of the inner casing 14 of the process tank 11; a steam supply means 16 for supplying high temperature steam HS into the process tank 11; and a suction exhaust means 17 for discharging the steam S in the process tank 11. The apparatus further includes a condensing and draining means 18 for condensing the steam S inside the process tank 11 in the process tank 11 and draining the condensate to the outside of the process tank 11. The condensing and draining means 18 includes a ceiling member 18a having a through hole 18c and a drainage path 18b for draining dew condensation water on the ceiling member 18a.
