To solve problems such as a large heat loss and deterioration of a coated film in finishing quality by employing a rational way on the carriage of coated materials and the change of the substantial length of a furnace.
The inner part of the furnace is divided into a plurality of section areas E, each of which contains one heating zone 5 or a plurality of continuous heating zones 5. Doors 7 are installed at the entrance and exit of the respective section areas E for the coated materials. These doors are opened or closed synchronously with the intermittent carriage of the coated materials by a carrying means T. Of all the section areas, the number of the section areas E to operate for drying treatment is changed in a series of section areas E in the direction of carrying the coated material as an objective section areas E for operation in the case of operation of a plurality of the section areas E in correspondence to the change in the scheduled number of coated materials to be treated per unit time. The time for drying the coated films of the coated respective material in the furnace is adjusted to a appropriate time by changing a set tact time of the carrying means T corresponding to the change in the number of the areas for the operation.
