To provide a fixing belt that has sufficient wear resistance even in high speed paper passage at 20 ppm or higher and has as a release layer a fluorocarbon resin that is excellent in releasability which is free of offset even in the use of color toner and to provide a method for the production of the fixing belt.

In the fixing belt having at least a heat-resistant endless belt and a releasing layer formed on the surface of the belt, the releasing layer is a fluorocarbon resin layer with a fusion heat quantity of 28 mJ/mg or less. The method for producing the fixing belt includes the step of applying a fluorocarbon resin to the surface of the heat-resistant belt, heating it at temperatures higher than the fusing point of the fluorocarbon resin, and then cooling it to the fusing point at a cooling speed of 10°C/min or higher, thereby forming the releasing layer.
