Water-soluble compounds of the formula wherein A is an aryl radical, X represents identical or different groups of the formula -CH2-CH2- and -CH2-CH(CH3)-, R-CO- denotes identical or different radicals of a carboxylic acid having up to 22 C atoms, n represents identical or different numbers from 8 to 150, p is a number from 1 to 10 and m represents 0 up to (p-0.5), are suitable for the preparation of colorants, particularly disperse dyestuffs or vat dyestuffs.
