Abstract:

To obtain an oriented thin film of monoaxially oriented naphthoquinone dye useful in the field of a photoelectric technique and preferably used for optical devices such as polarizer.

This thin film is obtained by uniaxially orienting dye molecules comprising a structure represented by the formula [R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each independently hydrogen, amino group, a group selected from a 1-25C hydrocarbon group, a 1-25C hydrocarbon group containing nitrogen, a 1-25C hydrocarbon group containing sulfur, a 1-25C hydrocarbon group containing oxygen, a 1-25C hydrocarbon group containing nitrogen and oxygen and a 1-25C hydrocarbon group containing sulfur and oxygen; R1 and R2, and R4 and R5 may mutually be bonded to form a ring]. In this case, the thin film has at least one absorption peak in the range of 400nm to 800nm of light absorption spectrum and has ≥1.2 dichroism ratio in a wavelength of at least one absorption peak of the thin film and has ≥1nm and ≤5μm thickness of the thin film.
