To provide a dye for a dye-sensitized solar battery, produced by a production cost not being pushed up because of not containing a noble metal, and capable of reducing environmental load; and to provide a photoelectric transfer element using the dye, and the dye-sensitized solar battery.
Lithioazobenzene is formed by cooling a 4-iodoazobenzene-containing solution to (-60)-(-70)°C, adding a n-butyllithium-containing solution dropwise to the solution, and stirring the resultant mixture for 0.5-1 hr at (-70)-(-20)°C. Bis(4-azobenzene)dichlorosilane is formed by cooling the solution containing the lithioazobenzene to (-60)-(-70)°C, adding silicon tetrachloride dropwise to the solution, and stirring the resultant mixture for 12-17 hr at a temperature from (-70)°C to room temperature. The bis(4-azobenzene)silanediol is obtained by cleaning the solution containing the bis(4-azobenzene)dichlorosilane with saturated brine, distilling the solvent of an organic layer contained in the solution, and recrystallizing the residue from hexane and ether.
