To provide a method for producing an aniline compound in high yield by condensing a dihalogenated hydrocarbon with an N-substituted aniline in a polar solvent in the presence of a basic compound, nitrosating the obtained compound, and reducing the nitrosated compound.
(A) A dihalogenated hydrocarbon of the formula X-CH2-Y-CH2-X {Y is (CH2)n [(n) is 0-8] or the like; X is a halogen} is condensed with (B) an N-substituted aniline of formula I (R is a 1-4C alkyl, a 2-4C hydroxyalkyl or the like; R1 is H, a halogen or the like) in a polar solvent (e.g. water) in the presence of a basic compound to provide (C) a compound of formula II, and the compound of formula II is nitrosated, preferably by the action of a mixture of sodium nitrite with hydrochloric acid in water at ≤10°C to provide (D) a compound of formula III. The compound of formula III is reduced to provide the objective aniline compound of formula IV [e.g. N,N'-bis (β- hydroxyethyl)-N,N'-bis(4'-aminophenyl)-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol] in the method for producing the aniline compound.
