In this case, the moving compensation prediction inter-frame encoding is performed by switching, for each encoding target macroblock, a first prediction mode using at least one encoded frame of past in time as a reference frame, a second prediction mode using a encoded frame of future in time as a reference frame, a third prediction mode using a linear sum of the encoded frames of past and future in time as a reference frame, and a fourth prediction mode using a linear sum of the plurality of encoded frames of past in time as a reference frame.
