PURPOSE: To set/preset a dynamic shift register in a moment with simple circuit configuration and to quickly start an image pickup operation by a solid-state image pickup device.

CONSTITUTION: The dynamic shift register constituted in such a way that plural circuit stages consisting of first and second cascade-connected inverters (P2, H2; P4. H4,...) are cascade-connected sequentially, and an input signal (ST) can be transmitted to a following circuit stage sequentially by activating the first and second inverters in each circuit stage alternately is provided with a simultaneous activation circuit (INV2, OR1, OR2) to directly transmit the input signal to the plural circuit stages by activating the first and second inverters simultaneously. Such dynamic shift register can be used in the vertical scanning circuit and horizontal scanning circuit of a solid-state image pickup element.
