To provide an article and a method by which a conventional stud gun can be used for an earring having an ornamental part of various sizes and shapes.

An article and a method for piercing the ear by an ornamental earring by using a conventional stud gun, are provided. An earring retainer 500 comprises inner cavities 511, 512 having the size and shape almost same as the outside dimension of an ornamental part of a post-type earring, and the retainer prevents the pivotting of the earring to the retainer, when the earring is enclosed in the retainer 500. The retainer 500 has the outside size to be tightly fitted into a plunger of the conventional stud gun, for preventing the retainer from largely pivotted or shifted to the plunger or the retainer during the use.
