To provide an earth retaining method which can achieve not only cost reduction enabling the reduction of a material and adoption of large machinery but also the reduction of the degree of environmental impact during neighborhood construction, by enabling early commencement of work for an earth retaining wall, when an underground structure is reconstructed in the case where a new building is constructed by demolishing an existing underground building frame.
A groundwater level is lowered by means of a deep well 10 etc.; all floors 2 and pressure-resistant slabs 12 of the existing building frame 1 in an earth retaining wall-planned section are demolished; fluidized soil 6 is placed up to a position higher than a normal water level of the groundwater; and the earth retaining walls 9 are constructed on both the sides of the beam under the state of leaving the beam 3 of the existing building frame 1 as it is, respectively. In a portion of the beam 3 of the existing building frame 1 as an unconstructed portion of the earth retaining wall 9, a soil improving hole 16 is drilled in the beam 3 near a head of the earth retaining wall; the hole 16 is utilized, or soil improvement 18 is applied to ground in an area corresponding to the backside of the earth retaining wall in the unconstructed portion of the earth retaining wall, from both the sides of the beam 3. Additionally, a soil consolidation agent made from a chemical solution is injected into a gap between the soil improvement 18 and the earth retaining wall 9 according to need, so that the required quality of the earth retaining wall 9 can be completed.
